I would love to give this place 5 stars and we love this place but the ranger at the front gave us such a hard time getting in .See my parents arrived before us in their camper and reserved a cabin my husband and I online, when they arrived the front to check in wasn't open so they talked to somebody cleaning which gave her the access code. When my husband and I arrived and wanted to pay for whatever fee there was she couldn't wrap her head around my parents already there without her knowledge and asked my mom's name 3 different times, not because she didn't hear me but to tell me no one by that name was in the park. Also that she shouldn't be in the cabin because she has a camper, I wasn't going to argue. So I just had my mom come up in her bathing suit to confirm she was there and that it was our cabin. All in all the lake is super fun also you can bring floaties and stuff to grill. In the morning I walked to the hot spring and took a dip which was beautiful and calming. They have clean bathrooms and showers which have seats in them. And as long as you have a licence you can fish. One more thing there are racoons there that yes are cute, but please do not feed them. The people next to us did not heed our warning and the next thing you know it stole a box of sorts off their table which they were they not happy about. But then took us more seriously. That's not the only thing, they are wild animals that COULD bite so keep your distance and throw all trash away, and bring food and coolers inside. Also I saw alot off cigarette butts around I mean come on people treat nature with respect also cigarette butts are considered trash so don't litter, I wish you weren't allowed to smoke (cigarettes) here.

We camped at Roper for 2 nights in March 2016. We parked in Hacienda Loop, space 35, a pull-through space with water and electric, and very near the lake. It was chilly and windy, but we enjoyed our stay. The camp sites are level and spacious, the grounds are attractive and clean, and the wildlife is amazing! We will be back!

Nice lake with an island beach. Natural hot spring tub is a nice bonus for the bones or to warm up if the lake is a little cold. We normally go to Patagonia lake but after finding this lil gem no more. One of the best parts is that boarder patrol doesn't hassle you as there are no check points. Its a beautiful drive from tucson on I10 to exit 352 then you follow az 191 n to a single lane each way you will pass dankworth pond state park wich has a hot spring n wadding pool. N you will turn right at dollar general and the lake entrance is on the right.

Very hard to fish with all the weeds. Don't think it is worth the money to use for day use for fishing because of all the overgrowth.

Beautiful area and peaceful campground to spend a long weekend at. Spaces are ample with a lot of space around them. Well paved; great for morning walks. Restrooms are very clean with modern fixtures. Sunsets are wonderful over Mt. Graham, which is the backdrop of the scenery. Mid February was chilly but being hooked up you'll be cozy. Great for bird enthusiasts too as it's a sanctuary.
